Why the Brain Tumour Charity is so close to our hearts...
In 2011, we, five sisters, received a phone call we will never forget.
It was from our mum. Calm, composed and matter-of-fact, she told us she had a mass on her brain. Just weeks earlier, she had suffered an unexpected seizure at work, something she had initially put down to working too hard and not eating enough. Further tests revealed the reality.
A few weeks later, Mum underwent major brain surgery at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where two large benign meningioma tumours were removed from her frontal lobe. The care she received was incredible. While the road to recovery was long -included a few funny stories along the way - we’ve watched our mum go from strength to strength. Although she still lives with lasting side effects, she is busier and more active than most 70 somethings we know.
Whilst visiting our Mum in hospital, we vowed to do something to help raise awareness of these potentially life-threatening and life-changing tumours. We’re so pleased to be able to fulfil that promise by supporting and fundraising for The Brain Tumour Charity.
